For a long time, it took a lot of homes a lot of years to move from using Kerosene to gas. Why? They thought gas was for the rich. They always believed it would be more expensive to manage. However, we all know now that a gas cooker will save you more in the long run. The same is applicable to the infra-red gas brooder. Many would say that it is too expensive to manage without ever considering to ask those who have been using it about the running cost. I took it upon myself to do this for you so that I will not only share my personal experience but also some users’ opinion.

Here is what I Got

My Question on 3 different Farmers’ Forums:

Question: Charcoal or Gas brooder, which is cheaper and better?

Interestingly, I got a handful of responses to this seemingly simple question, however, I discovered that the majority of those who chose Charcoal over the gas brooder have never used the infra-red gas brooder themselves. They only spoke based on perception.

So I modified the question to this:

At this point, the number of people who embraced infra-red gas brooders started to skyrocket.

In practice, those who have explored the two types of brooders can tell that an infra-red gas brooder is more effective and efficient.

In case you are still in doubt, let’s take a look at some of the advantages of Gas brooders over the use of charcoal pot.

    • Kindly note that I am not selling the gas brooder. I am simply educating people who care to know. The price should be around #35k as indicated in the article

    Big ups!

  • Unfortunately the biggest problem locally is inflated prices. I've been able to obtain automatic ignition infrared gas brooders from China at a cost of 8000 (shipping inclusive). The price locally gives a very big margin to the importer.

    • Hi Charles,
What was you experianced after using the equipment you imported? Someone above mentioned using 12.5kg of gas in 10 days.

  • apologies I thought the article was in Kenya. The price I’ve mentioned is Kenya shillings, which translates to 30k Naira.

    • Interestingly, the price in Nigeria was 30k until recently, which is understandable with the economic situation and current price of the dollar. That is to say that you purchased from China at the same price it was sold here in Nigeria. Evidently, anyone who buys it now is still making the right choice. I'm sure buying it from China now will cost you more than you bought it earlier. But over all, discretion is what counts.

  • Pls, how many days will a 5kg cylinder last for, while using it for a 24hour period. Thanks in anticipation of your response
