Garlic for poultry diseases is one of the greatest discoveries of organic poultry farming. Farmers are now including garlic in their poultry feed and water to prevent and combat serious bacterial diseases. In the life of a chicken, there are various disease pathogens to come across. Bacteria is one. Interestingly, garlic appears to possess excellent anti-bacterial properties that make it capable of replacing synthetic antibiotics. In this article, I will not be addressing the need to replace synthetic drugs with organic medications, as I have addressed that earlier. What then will I be showing you? I will be showing you the reasons why Garlic is used for poultry diseases to replace potent synthetic antibiotics. Your understanding of how to use garlic for poultry diseases will not only save cost but prevent drug failure. Let’s go a step deeper into the secrets of this magical bulb called garlic.
Isn’t it a wonder to know that garlic, a secret ingredient in your kitchen, does amazing work in preventing poultry diseases? Well, if you are not surprised, I was when I first found out. Then my curiosity led me into serious research and experimenting. Without wasting time, let’s look into what’s behind the potency of garlic. Garlic’s antibacterial property is as a result of the high amounts of sulfur in it. As you may know, sulfur is toxic to many parasites as they cannot synthesize it. Also, the levels of sulfur that chickens can tolerate is lethal to many harmful microorganisms. This is the obvious reason why it is effective for combating poultry diseases. Another interesting fact you may want to know is that many synthetic drugs try to replicate the sulfur properties of garlic, but there are reasons why garlic is superior.

Already, I have mentioned that many synthetic drugs replicate the sulfur properties of naturally occurring sulfur in garlic and other herbs. What’s more is that the sulfur in garlic is more easily digested compared to man-made drugs. Another reason why garlic is better for poultry diseases is that bacteria cannot become immune to it. This is because it does not appear in the same natural form unlike common synthetic antibiotics. Synthetic antibiotics possess a fixed chemical structure that succumb to bacteria mutation. Also, unlike synthetic antibiotics, garlic’s Allicin, the major antibiotic, is capable of killing bacteria that cause food poisoning.
SIDE NOTE: Allicin emerges when you crush or chop garlic, and after allinase acts on alliin in garlic.

If you are not yet impressed, I would like to inform you that garlic’s antibiotic agent does not destroy good bacteria as synthetic ones do. Usually, the use of garlic will arrest buildup of bacteria in your chicken’s gut, and the harm they can cause. Remember, it’s almost safe to say that a healthy gut is a healthy chicken.

Using garlic for poultry diseases (bacterial and respiratory) and general immune boosting is very effective. It’s antibacterial property makes it a worthy substitute for synthetic man-made alternatives. At this point, I think I should remind you that synthetic antibiotics are not the best if we want to ensure supply of safe food. You can find more details about why in my article on Organic Poultry Farming. That means garlic does not affect egg production by decreasing the production. Pls quantity is suitable for 1000 birds and for how many days if by water or mixing in the feeds? Thank you
Garlic is for prevention and cure of diseases in poultry. However, because of the sensitivity of layers to almost anything they eat, you should start to include garlic in their diet before laying.
I have an eBook on Organic Poultry that can help you with dosage and more. I also have a comprehensive chart for layer from day 1-100 and into laying. Feel free to contact me via email
Good day, does it mean that when one start using organic materials like garlic etc one can't combine with the man made drugs and vaccines?
Is there a procedure to follow from the regular practice to organic treatment or poultry farming?
There is no crime in combining. For example, you may only have knowledge of or access to herbs that can treat coccidiosis like bitter leaf. If that is the case, you can still use synthetic drugs when you chickens have CRD.
But the main reason for Organic Medications is to stop the use of synthetic drugs.
For regular procedures to follow, you can get my eBook: YOUR COMPLETE GUIDE TO ORGANIC POULTRY FARMING
